That “Nigga” Gene…

Interesting enough is the particular identification with the “ghetto”, or “hood”. This internalizing of poverty as an expression of “survivor”, you know(won’t go away without effort, I swear)? There is this sense of achievement of just saying you lived in a particular neighborhood, even if the person is still living there. Many have this need to blame the environment, and yet are determined to hold on to it. Define themselves by it.

There is a major sense of pride that comes with that. In the same way that soldiers or people who have been in the military during occupations and wars might point to a medal, or mention the particular operations they were a part of. We even hear it, “I’m a ghetto vet”. Now, would that be a domestic occupation? And for some, being a “thug” is an occupation! And although I’m being slightly facetious, there is something in A) the reality for some that there is a war occurring on US soil, and B) the overall comodification of the urban male/female image.

To be certain, it would be wise of us to realize that the image isn’t a new one. Nor is it for the most part an organic one as opposed to a manufactured one. The same sorts of behavior projected through time that were once used to make the American Black seem animal like, or less civilized, have been used to criminalize them. What would once be considered highly offensive, propagandistic, and in many ways inhumane, is now widely accepted as the way it is. It is just “keeping it real”. In many ways it is a pattern of how some might even want it. For some, it is just a joke, depending on who is telling it of course.

Granted, the notion that stereotypes are exaggerations of possible truths may have some validity. The roles that we choose to adopt to express native ability, or even gender, are often given to us by those who have an interest in promoting a particular image. There is market for a Queen Latifah to be a cover girl, or even for women to adopt the ideal of “Barbie”. There is something telling when we see a personality such as Monique exerting herself, comically or otherwise, to replicate the movements of Beyonce. As if to say yes, it is “F— skinny b—-es, but we still can dance like you.”

So, it would seem as though, if the stereotype doesn’t apply, or if the role presented by the image is difficult to maintain, a certain insecurity is developed. In that insecurity it seems that overcompensation occurs. Or humiliation, whichever comes first. Even in a Kanye West, a black male rap icon that admits to dressing like a homosexual there is a need to reflect the images of what might be the stereotypical rapper. Although, Kanye is in a league of distinguished gentlemen, we find him posing with his hands on his girlfriend’s butt holding a bottle Hennessey. Later in the same night, after possibly enjoy the said bottle cognac, he upstages, as part of his normal award show routine, Taylor Swift while giving her acceptance speech.

For black males in the urban community there is no Marlboro man to consider. But there is the “real nigga”. Not only is there the difficulty of simply being a man, and whatever standards come with that, there is the need to push beyond “real” man, into a role that society has been taught to fear. The athletic professional must not only be skilled in the techniques of their sport, but highly aggressive, demeaning, and often wrought with a lifestyle that mimics rappers mimicking what is perceived as the drug lord’s lifestyle. Which can get confusing these days, as many drug lords are mimicking rappers and athletes.

The need to not only possess that traits commonly held as masculine, there seems to be the desire to adopt the projected roles. You can’t just be highly talented basketball player, you’ve got have guns, and be seen with an entourage of “friends” from the dreaded “hood”. You can’t just be a brilliant scholar, a political phenom, a gifted orator, you’ve also got to have Ludacris on your ipod, play basketball, walk with a limp, and eat at the local grease pit. You can’t just hold a phd in theology or philosophy, and boast of intelligent works, you’ve got to be able to recite Nas’ discography.

Even as the black man with the most respect and fear in the world, it doesn’t matter if it doesn’t fit the description. You’ve got to have that nigga gene…

The Black Caste Condition

Category : politics, social issues

There is a lot to be said more about the black intellectual experience in the US. What a lot of American Blacks don’t understand is the class system being built around education. In so many ways, Brown v. Topeka(1954) has been rendered null and void. Although, the 1954 Brown v. The Board of Education ruling overturned segregation, in a de jure sense, in practice, its sway and influence began to decline after 1970. During the 1990s, school districts that had chosen voluntary desegregation programs were attacked with litigation by schools that sought to remain segregated such as the case Swann v. Charlotte-Mecklenburg, North Carolina. The impact of white flight from districts with predominantly black neighborhoods has lowered racial intermixing on a social level (mumford1.dyndns.org).

The highest rate of segregation appears to occur in large Northern metropolitan areas that are surrounded by white suburban areas. The findings of the 1974 Milliken Supreme court decision stands, a finding that forbids desegregation plans that cross school district lines. This creates a condition where densely populated areas of Blacks are unable to benefit from interacting with their white counter parts if the suburbs and the city are in differing districts. (colorlines.com)

So, in effect, you have a situaton where three-hundred and plus years of murder if you read, plus another hundred and plus years of schools that received low funding if at all by the government, and now a slight hundred years after that we have the same sort of thing. With the culture of anti-intellectualism being a customary for most cultures(the Khazarians killed their intellectual children), many in the American Black community have begun to define Black in manners that imply lack of intelligence, reason, or informed civility. The term “savage”, and phrases like “zero understanding” reflect this internalizing of the plight that American Blacks have had to face in gaining proper tools to become educated in a systematic manner outside of religious dogma and traditional American Black culture. Given that only 30% of the total population is degreed, and around 52% are high school educated, even with “street smarts”, the advantages of those who are able to obtain a foothold in this treacherous playing field of cultural capital hide and go seek are indeed great.

The same effects as what we might see in India with the “untouchables” begins to occur. Even at a possibly worse pitch due to the nature of inculcation. WHen a group of people that are as insular as the American Black population, with an extremely limited ability to influence and direct self-determination, begin to treat education in the same manner as the marginally-attached, then no matter how few accept this mentality, it will extend beyond those few “talented” ones. Class capitalism is as much about customs and culture as it is about wealth. With the legal system in the hands of the white wealthy, it is difficult to foretell if the American Black will be able to use criminal means to create a foothold as have the original British, French, and Spanish settlers, and all other European entities after them. Although there is an understandable degree of fear shared among the working and professional class of Blacks for those found in the urban setting, it would be more plausible for that group to build libraries and develop a leisure class outside of dependence on white american consumer marketing.

Land is land. Buildings are buildings. People make communities. The danger of any community is not in poorly built structures, that is to say outside of natural disasters of course. The danger is in the lack of respect for life. However, we have seen this lack of respect for life in everything that is human. Murdering one’s on kin is not the monopoly of the American BLack. The very term Anglo-Saxon is a reflection of gang/tribal warfare. Yet, without a balance of notions of what one can accomplish, without a discipline of thought, without an understanding of the power being weilded by outsiders via consumer marketing, the next generation of American Blacks might as all be murdered at seven by the police. They will either be dead, or serve the market in prison, or serve the market in stratafied housing zones and job placements. Those who succeed to rise above their brothers and sisters will be no different than the slave who slept in the attic of the master’s home one the plantation. They will be forced to drink beers and smile with the true power holders no matter the position of the member of the power holding race.

Machiavelli in the Modern Age

Nicolo Machiavelli, the world has not forgotten his name, mainly because they have yet to stop adhering to his principles of power management by those who head states. His works resonant with single purpose: power. Although we are all very enamored with the success of Barack Obama, I would like to use this paper as a means to show how he has and is demonstrating Machiavellian principles in this day and age.
One of the key elements of the Machiavellian body of thought is the use of whatever means at the leaders disposal to maintain order and reign. During the campaign, Obama made blatant statements that he would be removing from us the infamous and nefarious legacy left by his immediate predecessor, George W. Bush. Under George Bush, the NSA and various other information and intelligence gathering departments used wire taps to listen in on the thoughts and plans of the American citizens. Obama, when given the opportunity to write away this wrong when not bringing up charges against the Bush administration, and allow the wire tapping to go unpunished, setting the executive office in a position higher than the principles he espoused during his campaign. This is a direct power play that is in line with Machiavelli’s teaching. A line out of the book “Prince” would serve us well here,”…he (the leader) must stick to the good so long as he can, but, being compelled by necessity, he must be ready to take the way of evil.”(pg. 63).
It is within Obama’s ability to be good as he sees fit with the closing of Guantamo Bay, at least in writing, he may be doing what appears good to the people, which was another tactic offered by our great political philosopher. However, we know that he did not enforce his will against a measure that would allow him to be good in deed, in action, but rather choose to act with evil, in the course of necessity, which allows belies his overall character portrayal that man is good. If by allowing the state to continue practicing wire tapping there is a thought that given the opportunity to do evil, man will, and must be watched with a close scrutiny, not only those who have a vested interest in avoiding wire taps, but the whole of the American people must be held under close surveillance. Another key element in the Machiavellian doctrine, by any means necessary, as he puts it,”…In the actions of men, when there is no court of appeal one judges by the results.”
Obama also uses the religion of his childhood to further his mission in the political realm as an instrument of power. We see him in the church after his inaugural ball, all in the high class pomp of our modern society. Why would an intellectual such as Obama, a man who leans heavily on his own speech writing abilities, who supports the expansion of government into the affairs of business, be so adamant about being seen in a church? Is he also using the Machiavellian principle of religion as a tool for power?
Furthermore, what makes a non-incumbent president, who has no prior experience of this degree want to go to basketball games during an economic crisis? He is making sure that his method and fortune are in harmony. He is casting himself in the best possible light, as one of the common people. By bestowing this bit of charm on himself, he works to assuage any doubt in the minds of his citizens that he is amoral. He has not the time or the chance to deal with an issue so far out of his control at the moment such as the economic crisis. In fact, he takes this even further and admits to not having said power over an insured loan company such as AIG, although he sought to punish them quickly, while at the same time doling out small portions of the budget to the citizens. Who said this, “Injuries should be performed all at once: so resentment does not develop, favors (deals, entertaining, advertising, grants, charitable works) should be bestowed little by little…”
I am not a republican or anywhere near the American right in thought, deed, or other, however, it is very critical that we understand the measures that our leaders take in order to issue out their respective offices. Not that I totally disagree with the practices spelled out in “The Prince”, I just make sure to keep a vigilant eye out one someone who is operating out of a vested interest to maintain their power, I’m sure as Machiavelli would write, those powers are doing the same to me.

Tea Party Terrorist: Just Another Grand Ole Party?

Category : Poetry, social issues

During the Health Care Debate, a virulent set of white terrorists has emerged. The Tea Party campaign is nothing if not persistent, and yet their language and behavior is nothing short of terrorism. Terrorism in that it is political, it has a political agenda, and the group is targeting political representatives with violence in order to enact change. They are also using racially tinged acrimony to further their movement.

We have seen the likes of this right-wing behavior before. We all can remember when the President Barrack Obama was called a terrorist and a muslim during his campaign. We recall the rage that was being fomented by Sarah Palin, who has become one of the more pronounced ring-leaders of this terror unit. The fact that the media has yet to address the illegal behavior in such manner is telling. I have to bring to your attention this country’s dangerous practice of protecting all things white, and demonizing all acts that are non-white.

The conservative white US citizen has been allowed to terrorize town hall meeting after town hall meeting, with no more than a slap on the wrist, and heavy news coverage. While the media attempts to make Vice President Joe Biden’s possible slip of the tongue a major story, they seem to be downplaying the racially demoralizing comments of the Tea Party. It would seem that their(the tea party) attacks on the Health Care Bill is no more than a half cocked excuse to spew hatred for all things non-white. In the mix of this terroristic behavior, democratic elected officials are being targeted for actual violence.

I am troubled this country’s repeated show of double standards toward the white US terrorist. These people are no more than enemy combatants that should be incarcerated indefinitely. Their determined aggression is nothing short of treasonous, and they only soil the already feces and urine stained fabric of US society. What is this country waiting for, civil war? When the media address these savages as the terrorist organization that they are? While the intelligence agencies of this country are busy tapping our phones and studying our social networking practices, faking yet another Bin Laden Sex tape, there is a real clear and present danger being allowed to grow in our back yards.

As the American Blacks of this country have to debate whether we should be counted by an insensitive census bureau, which may offset statistic reporting for the next five years, terrorists are being catered to. Where are the gang units that ravage the American Black community in the communities of those who threaten law makers? Where are the phone tap reports of these terror cells? Why has the right-wing media not been to taken to account for their anti-democratic, anti-US demagoguery? Muslim clerics aren’t allowed to speak, but conservative wing nuts are promoting violence on this soil as though it were their religion. The insidious death threats towards the President and government officials through social networking sites, blogs, and the like are a part of a cohesive ideology designed to instill fear in those whose political ideas and racial make up are different. That is the definition of terrorism.

My After Thoughts On HCR…After

I suppose it is to be expected.

So many arguments. So many reasons.

I don’t deny any. All I ask is that those who wish to present their case bring well reasoned arguments.

It is the day after. The Health care bill has been signed into legislation. The mandate is real.

Of the disputes, I find the only one worthy of my concern is the benefit that it brings to insurance companies. We have to consider the power that a federal mandate will give to insurance companies across the US. In 2014, unless the law is change, every citizen will be demanded to possess health insurance. Possibly good, possibly bad, but what has been created to assist those who don’t have the funds to provide themselves with the necessary money month to month to cover the charge?

At all instances of politics, we have to remain aware of the direction that power has shifted. If you are a person that wishes to one day be a power broker, then this is upmost importance to you. Power does not come out of thin air. Although, for the most of us it has always been in the hands of those we deem worthy, without question. For a number of us, it remains a force that belongs to people with names. People who exist in real time. People that we can figure out a way to take it from.

I have only a few arguments against the bill, and the fact that it is a mandate is one. I believe that this will become an evil for those the bill suggests it will help. We all have to consider how that measure will affect us in the future. We also need to convey that reality to those whose priorities have not reached a level of maturity. The bill rewards us much that is beneficial, while it also promotes the capitalist state.

As Pres. Obama has signed this piece of legislation into law, we must continue to be diligent in the reform of the bill. For those who are able minded, please consider the ramifications of the federal mandate forcing citizens to spend and acquire the services of those who have been forced to render them. Yes, this is a very euphoric moment, but not a moment of rest. As reasonable thinkers, we still need to consider the detrimental concerns of this bill. It is not time to become lambs who dance to their slaughter. Instead, it is time to become well inform people who belong to a republic who are aware of the changes that occur, and their power to act swiftly and educatedly to enact change, and to demand change when needed from their representatives.

When the votes had been tallied, and the results had finally came in. After John McCain had given his speech, and the, at that time, president elect, “catted” his way to the bullet proof shield in Chicago, my first reaction was to let everyone know that he wasn’t black like us. I still hold on to that fact, and I am often forced to stand on that position. And I will. I also will stand on my position that the Health Care Reform package is a good thing for those that are in need of it.

During my darker hours I was smart enough to find ways to get government assistance. Not quite as much as Wells Fargo & Co.(they got $25,000,000,000), or State Street Corp.(They got $2,000,000,000), but I suppose I got enough for my purposes at the time. I used to walk past the Health Care for Kids center and witness the single mothers who’s children may be in need of check ups for school, illnesses and sicknesses that occur in the process of developing strong immune systems that can’t always be alleviated through healthy diets. I understood the means and the methods of holding one’s government accountable. After passing by so many homeless veterans waiting on the VA, I understood also the need for patience, and self-determination.

I can tell you that those who worked out deals with the government out of the offices of JPMorgan Chase & Co., Citigroup Inc., Goldman Sachs Group Inc., Bank of New York Mellon Corp., and Regions Financial Corp. aren’t complaining about what they didn’t have before, or what conspiracies the government has concocted. They are trying to get more money.

I am not to happy that the mandate has passed, I would have opted for the public option. I am, however, glad that some may leave dead end jobs that were held only because of insurance prices, may now take heart, and become entrpreneurs. I am also pleased that more students seeking higher education will be able to take advantage of the $36 billion promised in the reconciliation bill through the Pell Grant. More than that, I’m hoping to negotiate some of my own personal college debt away!

Concessions, Applause, and Book Plugs…The Black Agenda Conference…

Category : politics, social issues

Nothing makes my day better than spending it in the neighborhoods of the black community, listening to arguments about Jay-z, and brothers from St. Louis reminiscing about how the bloods and crips first came here. The height of the day was hearing brothers discuss the murder of Hitman-T at eighteen, and his body being expunged from the ground, and left on his mother’s doorsteps. Yeah, great way to start your day off on a positive note.

So, once I returned home, I was excited to read my e-mail (we might as well just start calling it g-mail…it is coming) and my DMs (Direct (Private) Messages from my twitter account), and find a set of videos left by a good brother of mine, and a sister asking me to watch The Black Agenda that was recorded early today. From listening to old gang bangers, to listening to older black politicians and academics. Yeah, my life, right?

The theme was “We Count”, and Tavis Smiley was sitting at a round table(enough of the subtle gestures already guys…) with the likes of Rev. Jesse l. Jackson, sr., Minister Louis Farrakhan, Michael Eric Dyson, Cornel West, Angela Glover Blackwell, Michael Fuantroy, Dr. Julianne Malveaux. They were affectionately referred to as Tavis smiley and the Panelist…I thought they were going to dim the lights, and drop a few highlights on them while the music began to play…instead, Tavis asked everyone to hold and pray. Thank you. I didn’t know if Michael Phleger would be able to hold a note. Oh, yeah, Michael Phleger was the one who gave the invocation, yeah, the white Michael Phleger gave the invocation for the Black Agenda…yeah.

It was hosted by Wayne Watson president of Chicago state university(affectionately known as CSU…Geez, guys…who’s writing this stuff…), and before the marquee guests appeared he asked the students to participate in the 2010 census. Now why would he bring that up? When have you ever heard someone talk about the census? He states that participation in the census will help the federal government allocate funds to the black community…

I was so glad that Jesse L. Jackson was the one to make the comments about the moral center, and the black agenda being the moral agenda…I’m not going to say it…well…maybe the good Christian monogamous brother believes he is Abraham…

The gist or the overall theme of the conference and much of all the panelists’ discussion was that the American Black Agenda was the American agenda. I ultimately understood the dialogue, and was glad the dialectic was pronounced. However, I also would like to state that every time American Blacks attempt to depend on the state of White America to heed their call, nothing but concessions amount from the talks. This is still planet earth, and rule number one among the living seems to be the need to demand power, and not ask for it. The hope of better treatment for the millions of American Blacks in this country from millionaires is very strange to me. And ultimately, those who say let your work show, I’m in the belly, and I have been here for the most of my life, and I have never seen you.

I see the gangster discussing how they have shot people and how the organizations of young men in the streets of St. Louis has grown. I hear the pain of the brothers and sisters when referencing work and jobs. I hear them when they talk about the various prisons across the state of Missouri, and how one can avoid the traps. I believe they have taught me more about the black agenda than those who live comfortably working at such institutions as Prince George University, Georgetown, and Princeton, Bennett College for women. I have no compunctions with them discussing moral codes because they also discuss their moral dilemmas. I trust them. And because they see me striving for this degree, while living among them, they trust me as well.

How DMX Might Counsel Obama and Google About China

As I skimmed through my bookmarks held on delicious.com, I came across this particular piece from last week. It is titled “China reports on US human rights record”. It is located in the “Foreign and Military Affairs” section of the online newspaper, Chinadaily.com.cn. According to the article, the Chinese Information Office of the State Council has written a document detailing the Human Rights violations of the United States of America in 2009. The article states that the Human Rights Record of the United States in 2009 was in response to the United States’ Country Reports on Human Rights Practices for 2009, a report that was commissioned by the US Department of State last week.A pretty bold move on the part of the Western Capitalist society that could considering the United States in pocket to China a mouth watering 1.56 Trillion dollars(source here).

It would also seem as though the US is also attempting to appeal to a world audience the need for internet companies like Google to be allowed to be free of censorship and scrutiny in China. While the content wars between Google and China ensue, a light weight contender is feeding off of the frenzy. Chinese search engine, Baidu has jumped 47% of US market shares. The company’s company’s Nasdaq traded stock is being closely watched by US analyst and fund managers who seek to benefit from the possibility of the website to reap the revenues left behind if Google decides to leave China(source here).

Rewind a little further to when the White House hosted the Dalia Lama, a exiled Tibet leader, which caused a major riff in US and Chinese affairs. The wording of China’s leadership was less than impartial on the subject, including statements that the US should “immediately take effective steps to eradicate the malign effects” that they felt the US had created with the meeting (source here).

All of this, oh, and one more thing, a prominent firm of Silicon Valley, Applied Materials, the world’s biggest supplier of components that are implemented in the manufacture of semiconductors, solar panels and flat-panel displays is moving one of its chief technology officer to China. The company has built a research lab there, and last week held its annual shareholders’ meeting there.According to the New York Times, the company is working in China to produce two-thirds of the world’s solar panels by the end of this year (source here).

As most of my older followers know, I have a tendency of relating the macrocosmic political/economic world to those of the microcosmic. It was very difficult for me not to see the relation of these global interactions with that of drug dealers. I would suppose an explanation might be in order for the uninitiated. In considering these events, I am reminded of a DMX song that I hope that President Obama has somewhere in a playlist on his Ipod….

The Left, The Right, and The White…

Category : politics

I was watching Bill Maher’s Real Time on HBO this morning. Although I am often offended by his off color remarks with regard to race, and his undercover Jewish habit of thinking because he is having sex with black women he is given the right to speak about black people in an often too blunt manner, I still tuned into the white camel nosed comedian while giving his notoriously uncomical monologue. Later in the show I was blessed with a jewel from the mouth of swine. The greasy political one-liner stated that the Pentagon shooter, John Patrick Bedell was an internet conspiratorialist.

Now it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch for me to accept the shock spot of the desperate clown, except that HBO’s jester was borrowing sound bites from CNN. CNN is supposedly an objective news source, but with republican sponsored advertisements disparaging the Health Care Bill being presented by the president of the United States, Barack Obama, and the Democratic Party. Now what I want to explain is what is supposed to be the difference between the right-wing and the left wing, left to center, and right to center.

Bill Maher’s supposedly represents himself as leftist. In the United States, “left” is more a political stance that attempts to improve the conditions of the middle class. The Right is the part of the political spectrum that symbolizes the ideas of the rich and the status quo. The major ideas of the right are rooted in the preservation and extension of the “American Idea”, and in many ways the White US American, or Old US American way of expanding the market through genocide and cultural imperialism. The Right is the political stance most represented by Fox News anchors and conservative radio hosts like Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage and Glenn Beck. Although these are all extreme examples, they are the voice of the visible media conduits of these political wings, or spectrums.

Center, as one might guess, is the place where policies and stances on issues get balanced and interchanged. Barack Obama is a left to center president of a country that is right to center. Capitalism is a conservative state of mind that employs military means to expand markets that benefit the status quo while objectifying the working class. The observative political scientist needs to understand that the basis of all political decisions in this country is weighed heavily against a very rightist base of economics and social system. The average US K-12 student is highly seeped in a belief that if you work hard, you will achieve financial stability and possibly financial comfort. The student is socialized to believe that if anyone does not possess particular material possessions or a certain type of job, then it is their fault. These types of people, for some reason, lack the ability or motivation to be mobile in this country and they are a burden on the “taxpayer”. This is often an immature political and socio-economic viewpoint that lacks to consider the actual lack of laissez-faire as the government offers loans and grant subsidies to business ventures without the rightist stigma placed on the citizen. Laissez-faire is the political ideology and state of affairs where the government is supposed to allow entities involved in business ventures free reign from government regulation. But as we all have seen this administration continue the practices of the former with regard to the billion dollar bailout of corporate and banking interests. the same interests that buttressed the decline of the US economy to begin with.

The question becomes if we are such a centered nation, at what point does Republican and Democratic interest become divergent? Bill Clinton and Barack Obama both received campaign donations from Bill Gates, as did George Bush. Bill Clinton opened more prisons during his administration than any other president in history. Bill Clinton created a bill that hinders anyone convicted of drug trafficking from receiving financial aid from the government. Two very obvious attacks on the poor. This is supposedly left wing behavior, and a liberal stance. Even Barack Obama displays a right wing ideology when making statements regarding the poor that the poor have to work their way up like everyone else. Well, not quite Mr. President, seeing that your administration has helped bankers and corporations survive financial setbacks that would have surely sent them to the asking about how many stamps they get monthly on their EBT card.

From the point of view of the citizen, the question you need to prepare yourself with is where do you stand on certain issues. If I was living in a country that was administrated by American Blacks than my stance on most issues would be considered right wing, highly nationalistic. Even in the US, I would have a difficult time placing my take on issues on the spectrum. I don’t support abortion, but I don’t think abortion should be a question of legislation. Well, I should say, I don’t think the US government should have any say in the matter. This is the type of analysis you should begin in your own thinking.

Where do you fall in the spectrum?

No Taxation without Education…

In the aftermath of the University of California at San Diego terrorist concern, “noose-gate”, the state of California has more than one problem with its institutions of higher learning. The students across the state of California, in a grand show of solidarity, began to hit the streets to protest a 33 percent increase in tuition. In the same state the spawned the protests of the sixties, and gave birth to the west coast office of the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense, working class and poor college students are once again being called upon to defend human needs from human’s greed. Today is a Day of Action to Defend Public Education.

As the president of the United States, Barack Obama laments the need for productivity and the need for higher education, his words sink like human excrement to the ground as those of us who are actually attempting to walk the path of the intellectual are being bombarded with impossible colleges prices. Students are expected to study hard enough to make 4.0’s while working two jobs, and many taking care of other responsibilities besides themselves. The price of education continues to rise, while the value of the bachelor degree and master degree are losing traction. The well to do are once again given an advantage in this country while the working class is being forced into substantial debt attempting to live the American Dream.

Where is the advantage of this? What has the value of the US taxpayer’s dollar become? Where is the Robin Hood of this era to take from the rich and give to the poor, the same way that the government has taken from everybody else and given it all to the bankers and corporations? While Maddoff is sitting in federal prison, the predatorial lenders are still flying private jets sipping chilled glasses of Sherry. I guess it isn’t what you do, but who you do it to.

No taxation without representation. Where is the representation for those students across the country out tonight forced to represent them? Where is the education president at? Where is the country of democracy on this issue of educating the masses in order to have an informed public?

I want to give a special mention to all the protesters who have gone out to demonstrate the evils that men do in this country. Who have bonded together in civil demonstration, to plea to the world, “Why are they being fleeced of their pursuit of happiness?”

To those three who were arrested outside Hunter College…

To those five who were arrested in California outside of the Capitol for protesting the budget cuts…

To those students who attempted to take the seventh-floor of Hunter…

To those students who walked out of class at the New School and New York University…

To the students who hit the streets to voice the pain of a dream being deferred by the bottom line, at over 100 California colleges campus…

To all the students around the world, but especially those who are standing strong to protect our duty to be educated as the president of the United States might say…

YOU HAVE MY UTMOST RESPECT. I AM HONORED TO SEE THIS DAY…

Thank you for reminding me….
